How did you get that live eagle to sit still while you spray varnished it?? Fantastic, they don't get any better than that.

Exceptional eagle

The wood looks like black walnut. What is it? I am getting ready to carve a couple of eagles out of black walnut and I only hope mine come a little close to the beautiful face you have created on yours. Thanks for sharing.

answer

November 21 2007, 5:55 PM

Hello,

thanks for your feedbacks.

- The wood called in german "Pappel", in english "poplar".

- I used for the finish a dremel, flex, powerfile, sand-o- flex, and abrasive paper.

- The eys are from the german company www.grube.de. They are plastic.

Jochen your eagle is fantastic. Like Bob K and the others have said it inspires one to go and try to do better.
God knows I need all the inspiration I can get.
Thanks

Great to see!!!!!

November 23 2007, 11:15 AM

If you look long and hard you can see many historical trade marks of the chainging industry! I can see chain saw used in the body, and sanding, chiselling, and other tooling around the eyes, and in the head detailing, and tha glass eyes, not the ordinary, but looks like very well chosen, this carver knows all aspects of wood carving and treatment, very nice! Pure descriptive sculpture, impressionism, detailed craftsmanship, this is sculpture, and carving, I don't write on here much anymore, but man, this one inspred me!!!!

perfect definition....

November 23 2007, 11:19 AM

Is this a chainsaw carving, I believe so, this shows that even though you can apply other techniques, and tools, the look of this carving could not have been achieved with out the highly skilled use of a chainsaw. It would have been really hard to block this piece out and detail the feathers with any thing else.
